Vintage Linens: Piecing Together Hexagons; a Tutorial

What do you do with bits and pieces of vintage linens when you want to make hexagons that are bigger than your really cool little left over embroidery and lace scraps?

Here are about 35 pictures meant to be a tutorial with few words. But you know me by now and sometimes words are necessary.

Example 1 of 3:

Lay the irregular piece onto a hexagon cut from your background fabric. I’m using bleached muslin.

Example 2 of 3:

Set your machine to stitch a tiny zig-zag and use a light weight (like an 80 weight) thread.

    How did you think of the engineering necessary to make a scrap into a piece you want, w/o it looking like ….a scrap made out of desparatation to use iand make it fit???

  9. Thanks for sharing! You are an inspiration. I have been collecting embroidered pieces and including some pieces I’ve done myself but never finished and I plan to put them together into something. It’s fun to see how you prepare the pieces. Thanks!

  12. I love these. Thanks Rhonda. In the last of the 3 examples would you applique the 3 pieces onto a backing fabric and then use a decorative stitch on the edges?
